ModBox designs and builds modified shipping containers in Rutherford, NSW: cafes, site offices, accommodation, mine camps and more. For years they worked as a wholesaler, building for other companies who sold the result as their own. To sell direct, they needed a website, a steady flow of leads and a sales process. That's where we came in.

2024, and still working together

ModBox was busy, but most of that work was for other people. Other companies would win the job, put their name on it and outsource the build to ModBox. The work kept the workshop full, but the margin and the customer relationship sat with someone else.
The owners could see that selling direct would mean healthier margins and full control over the customer experience, from first enquiry to delivery on site.
The problem was that nothing was set up for it. The website was a template that didn't reflect the business, with overseas stock photos and placeholder copy that didn't make sense to an Australian buyer. It wasn't going to rank, and it wasn't going to convince anyone.
There was no CRM either. Enquiries, quotes and follow ups lived in inboxes and heads, which works for a handful of wholesale accounts but not for a steady flow of direct customers.
We built everything a business selling direct needs: a way to be found, a reason to enquire, and a process to turn enquiries into signed jobs.
We built a new site from scratch, using ModBox's own projects and photos instead of stock imagery, with a landing page for each type of container conversion, from cafes to mine camps, plus a blog. Every page has a clear way to request a quote.
We structured it from the start so Google and AI assistants understand what ModBox builds and where it delivers. The site brought in organic leads straight after launch.
We built campaigns around the conversion types people search for, each sending traffic to the matching landing page. Google Ads has become a significant source of leads and sales for the business.
This was ModBox's first CRM. Every enquiry from the website and ads lands in HubSpot, and the team now runs the whole sales process there, including quoting, from first contact to signed job.
ModBox now wins work under its own name, with healthier margins and the customer relationship in its own hands.

Selling to the end customer, with healthier margins than wholesale
ModBox now has its own brand in market, a website that brings in enquiries from search and ads, and a sales process the team runs end to end in HubSpot. We still work with them on lead generation and sales.
The wider point is that plenty of good manufacturers sit one step back from their customers, doing the work while someone else owns the relationship. Going direct takes more than a new website. It needs the site, the ads and the sales process built together, so the leads that arrive turn into jobs.
